At Penoblo, you will find a selected collection of unique and high-quality fountain pens from renowned brands. We offer the right fountain pen for everyone, whether made of gold, 925 sterling silver, or other high-quality materials such as the natural composite celluloid. Therefore, we at Penoblo have made it our business to offer you a sophisticated portfolio of classy fountain pens. Since you can find out your preferred nib size and nib material (e.g., stainless steel or gold) after the purchase, we still offer the possibility of free exchange. In addition, we offer you to have your fountain pen engraved in different fonts according to your own wishes. This has the benefit that your fountain pen is personalized and distinctive. In addition, engraving on the pen creates a personal bond and is an ideal and excellent gift.

There is probably no other writing instrument that allows you to write and sign as stylishly and elegantly as a fountain pen. Whether it’s a fountain pen with a gold nib or sturdy stainless steel: when the nib glides gently over the paper, the soft scratching sound can be heard, the nib shines in the light, and the ink spreads gently over the paper surface - then you know you’ve made the right choice with a fountain pen. Letters immediately become a lot more personal, a signature gains much more weight, and writing down ideas and notes, perhaps even stories and poems becomes a delight for the senses.

HOW MUCH DOES A NORMAL FOUNTAIN PEN COST?

A regular fountain pen, intended for normal everyday use, costs between 70 AED and 300 AED.

WHAT IS THE BEST FOUNTAIN PEN FOR LEFT-HANDERS?

The best fountain pen for left-handers can basically be any fountain pen. Therefore, especially for left-handers: try before you buy. It is essential to try out the fountain pen's nib to understand the personal feeling of writing. Often left-handers tend to use broader nibs, with Lamy and Faber-Castell being popular brands. If you have any questions about this or need personal advice, we are always available to assist you.

FOUNTAIN PEN - MATERIAL AND DESIGN

A fountain pen consists of a barrel, cap, filling system, and nib. The barrel and cap form the largest part of the fountain pen and allow plenty of freedom for creativity through the choice of material and design. The interior of a fountain pen is filled mainly with ink, which can be stored in various forms in the barrel. The soul of a fountain pen is the nib. It is responsible for the writing feeling and connects hand, barrel, and paper.

BARREL AND CAP

In the long history of the fountain pen, many different materials have been used. As a result, they differ in aspects such as weight, surface texture, and coloring. Today, most manufacturers choose exquisite resin, metal, and wood.

FOUNTAIN PENS FROM EXQUISITE RESIN

The most popular material for the barrel and cap of a fountain pen at the present time is the high-grade resin. This is mainly because the material has low wear, low weight, and availability in all existing color shades. Although many manufacturers still make plain black fountain pens to emphasize the elegance of their writing instrument. Still, there are many bright and sometimes extraordinary colors available. Moreover, since high-grade resin is a very light material, it is particularly suitable for people who write regularly. Thus, even after hours of diary or letter writing, there is no tense or cramped feeling, but rather the fountain pen simply feels comfortable in hand.

Another advantage of high-grade resin is its longevity. High-grade resin foutnain pens can be passed on to the next generation without any problems, even after intensive use. In addition, since the material is robust, exquisite resin fountain pens often show no scratches, even after many years.

METAL FOUNTAIN PENS

A fountain pen made of metal is undoubtedly an exceptional experience. Most manufacturers use stainless steel, silver, gold, copper, or brass in the production process. The most significant difference to the high-grade resin is the higher inherent weight of the metals used. Metal fountain pens have a noticeable weight that is comfortable to hold. They also tend to react more to their surrounding temperature. As a result, they often feel colder than exquisite resin fountain pens at the start of writing unless the sun has previously shone on the desk.

The surface of a metal fountain pen is offered either processed, lacquered, or coated. Metals such as silver, gold, copper and brass develop an individual patina over the years of use, which can be understood as a unique characteristic of the writing instrument. This is not the case with coated metal pens. Suppose you value a shiny silver corpus that will not lose its gloss even after many years. In that case, you should consider a metal fountain pen with a silver-plated, rhodium-plated, and palladium-plated surface. You don’t want to do without the pleasant weight and appealing feel of a metal fountain pen, but instead of silver, you want more color in your everyday writing? Then lacquered metal fountain pens are just the thing for you. The lacquers shine in impressively bright colors. Like high-grade resin fountain pens, they can now be selected from the entire color spectrum.

While many high-grade resin fountain pens have a classic look, metal fountain pens often feature a contemporary design that can take all forms from simple to extravagant.

WOODEN FOUNTAIN PENS

Instead of an extraordinary design, do you value detailed, refined craftsmanship? Then a wooden fountain pen could be just the thing for you! Wooden fountain pens are often handcrafted throughout the entire manufacturing process. This makes the manufacturing process very elaborate and time-consuming. The structure of the wood alone makes the wooden fountain pen a genuine one-of-a-kind. The haptics will also convince you that wood is simply charming to hold as a natural product. A fountain pen made of wood is also suitable for frequent and intensive use due to its weight. The material is slightly heavier than high-grade resin but significantly lighter than metal. However, as an organic structure, wood is more likely to be scratched and show other signs of use than high-grade resin and metal. But that, too, can be just the perfect main feature, just like the patina of a metal fountain pen.

ELEGANT FOUNTAIN PENS: MORE THAN 130 YEARS OF WRITING CULTURE

It is now more than 130 years since the fountain pen, as it is today in the hands of enthusiasts, began its journey worldwide. The invention began with a misfortune that had happened thousands of times every day up to that point. The attempt to sign a document or put thoughts on paper with a fountain pen failed because of something relatively trivial: ink spills. How many clever ideas were ruined by the unattractive stains is not known. One thing was sure: one man was going to put an end to it. The New York insurance broker Lewis Edson Waterman had finally enough of ink spills by 1883.

THE FOUNTAIN PEN - AN IDEA CONQUERS THE WORLD

Until the invention of the fountain pen, people wrote with quill pens. In the old days, natural goose or duck feathers were dipped into an inkwell, later with nibs made of metal, in the refined version also of silver or gold. However elegant the quill pens were, they all dripped and spilled as much as they could. Not only in Waterman’s case did this have severe consequences: The insurance broker lost a deal because ink made the contract illegible. And that was sufficient motivation for the passionate inventor to make a change. Waterman kept the principle of the nib and added a crucial point: a hole in the nib was to ensure that the ink would flow evenly. Due to capillary action - liquids rise upwards by themselves in narrow tubes - the ink flows through an ink duct to the tip of the nib. This principle made everything possible, and the fountain pen was invented. In February 1884, Waterman registered a patent for his invention and founded the Waterman Pen Company shortly afterward. Many were to follow him, most notably George Parker. In Germany, however, Friedrich Soennecken produced the first fountain pens based on the new principle. And they became a real success story. At the time, the fountain pen was considered the most reliable writing instrument par excellence. There were already forerunners of today’s ballpoint pen. Still, they caused even more stains and were simply regarded as unreliable - and they were also much more expensive than the fountain pens.

HIGH-QUALITY FOUNTAIN PENS - THE JOURNEY FROM AMERICA TO THE WIDE WORLD

Thus the fountain pen moved from America to the whole world and remained the number one writing instrument there for many decades. At school, at university, in the company, and in the private sphere, for business correspondence or personal conversation, the fountain pen was popular - and by no means only as a simple everyday product. The fact that writing with a fountain pen is something special was already known in its early days. No wonder that, in addition to the standard fountain pens, a selection of exquisite models and exclusive special editions has always prevailed and remains one of the most sought-after objects among experts to this day. Historical fountain pens from the cult brand Pelikan are now collector’s items only taken out of the display case on extraordinary occasions. A whole series of models from Parker are also highly treasured to this day, and top prices are paid for the rare examples.

ELEGANT FOUNTAIN PENS: FROM EVERYDAY OBJECT TO LUXURY ACCESSORY

But the fountain pen’s triumphant success was to be jeopardized by the ballpoint pen. Whose design principle was significantly improved in the 1940s, which was to slowly but surely steal the fountain pen’s popularity. While the ballpoint pen was still rather poorly developed in its early days, it was regarded as an expensive luxury once the design had been perfected. However, this changed dramatically in the 1950s: the ballpoint pen became an inexpensive mass product and largely replaced the fountain pen as an everyday writing instrument.

GOOD FOUNTAIN PENS - FOR FRIENDS OF TRUE WRITING CULTURE

However, the ballpoint pen did not wholly succeed in replacing the fountain pen. On the contrary - it gave it back the exclusive, exceptional significance that the fountain pen had during its golden age. Today, connoisseurs and enthusiasts, passionate writers, friends of elegant writing culture, and people who are stylishly aware still swear by the fountain pen as the writing instrument of choice. Especially on special occasions, the fountain pen is brought out and shines in a special light. Important contracts, personal letters, the most inner thoughts - friends of authentic writing culture prefer to write all this with a fountain pen. The pens used by U.S. presidents, for example, are legendary. None of them missed the opportunity to sign documents and treaties with an ink pen - and each letter with a different one. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed with 75 fountain pens, and Barack Obama signed the legendary healthcare reform with 22 fountain pens. Many of the presidential fountain pens are now in museums - unless they were given to those involved as souvenirs.

FOUNTAIN PEN - ERGONOMICS AND STYLE

Today, a fountain pen must meet numerous requirements. It must fit comfortably in hand, be precisely the right size for the writer’s hand, and have the perfect weight to put words on paper with just the correct pressure. This also means that not every fountain pen is suitable for every writer. A luxury fountain pen, for example, is a very personal purchase and an accessory that is not quickly passed on. A fountain pen is therefore also an extraordinary gift that, if chosen carefully, will make the recipient feel like a very unique person.

WHAT IS A PISTON FOUNTAIN PEN? - HERE IS A DEFINITION

THE PISTON FOUNTAIN PEN BRIEFLY EXPLAINED

A piston fountain pen is filled with ink differently than a cartridge fountain pen. To do this, the nib of the fountain pen is dipped into an ink bottle. The piston is then rotated by a mechanism at the end of the fountain pen barrel. As a result, a vacuum is created, which absorbs the ink from the ink bottle into the ink reservoir of the piston fountain pen. The piston mechanism had existed since 1929, long before ink cartridges were developed. This technology allows large quantities of ink to be stored in the fountain pen.

ADVANTAGES OF A PISTON FOUNTAIN PEN

  • High ink capacity
  • Large selection of inks and ink colors
  • Use of unique, extravagant inks
  • Nostalgia and deceleration

QUALITY AND CONSULTATION ON FOUNTAIN PENS AT PENOBLO

The classic piston fountain pen is still one of today’s bestsellers when it comes to buying a new fountain pen for yourself or as a gift. Or treat yourself to absolute luxury with the fountain pen with a gold nib. What could be more beautiful and, yes, more sensual than a sparkling gold tip from which the ink pours onto the paper? Furthermore, when buying a new luxury fountain pen, the thickness of the nib is a critical factor that causes a difference of opinion. Those who prefer to write with a fountain pen with a broad nib will find what they are looking for here, as will friends of narrow nibs. Which nib is preferred is simply a matter of taste. A broad nib, for example, creates a richer typeface, a fact that many people appreciate. And buying a piston fountain pen or cartridge fountain pen is always a matter of personal preference.
